How Air Cleaners and Sanitizers Can Help the Home

Now is a time around the world where everyone is doing their best to find ways to stay healthy and avoid contaminants and disease. These agents spread through the air even indoors, making homeowners unsafe even in their own homes.

To combat such scenarios, many people acquire machines to help clean the air of these pollutants. Two commonly used machines for this purpose are UV air sanitizers and air purifiers.

How Air Cleaners Work

While both of these machines work to rid the air of contaminants, the way they go about doing so differs between the two categories. Air purifiers are air cleaners that usually use electricity or ionization to help clean pollutants. In both scenarios, the air purifiers charge the ions floating through the air, such as dust or pollutant ions. This charge allows the air purifier to suck in ions from the air into the unit, which can be cleaned out later.

While most air purifiers use electricity or ionization to clean the air, UV air sanitizers use UV rays to help rid the air of contaminants. The rays released from a unit are the same as the rays released from the sun, and the strong ultraviolet levels kill off any harmful cells in the air, such as airborne bacteria and mold. It also helps rid the air of other outside pollutants as well.

Comparing Benefits

Each machine has its own benefits. People that find they have sensitive skin or a low immune system might feel uncomfortable with a machine emitting UV rays in their homes. Air purifiers using electricity or ionization have also been on the market for longer, having a long track record of working well for families in removing air pollutants.

While UV air sanitizers might seem more of a safety concern, they do a slightly better job of neutralizing all air threats. Air purifiers that use electric or ionization methods to clean the air don’t work as well at catching bacteria and other living organisms in the air. The processes tend to work better on non-living particles instead of living ones.

Why Homeowners Might Need One

The need for an air cleaning system in a home varies greatly by home location. For those living in a big city or a more humid area where particles can more easily get caught up in the air, an air cleaning system is necessary. Living in a crowded city is sure to produce many pollutants that could come into the home, while more humid environments make it easier for fungi like mold to grow inside. Homeowners also might buy one if they live in an area with a lot of industry. Either way, cleaner air leads to healthier sleep and a healthier life.
